The Publishing Division is seeking a marketing professional who will be responsible for the planning, management, and execution of marketing strategies, and tactics to launch AACR’s latest journal, Cancer Research Communications, an open access journal that covers the full spectrum of cancer science and medicine, as well as other assigned journal(s). An organized and proactive self-starter, the Journal Marketing Manager will collaborate with the broader marketing team to draft, review, and revise, as needed, the marketing plan for Cancer Research Communications and for assigned journal(s) to build awareness, drive submissions, and drive usage. The manager oversees the implementation of the marketing activities using a variety of channels but with a focus on digital channels. As a data-driven marketer, the manager will track and report on the analytics and metrics for all campaigns, as well as put forth recommendations to improve metrics.
•In partnership with the journals’ editorial staff, develop and execute effective marketing strategies and associated marketing tactics for the assigned journals, liaising with the Digital Marketing Manager, the Division’s Digital Publishing team, and Marketing & Creative Services staff members to ensure that campaigns are executed, and materials are delivered on time.
•Collaborates with internal editors to draft messaging for the journals, as well as to develop relevant messaging for specific audiences.
•Write marketing copy for social posts, blogs, emails, ads, and other channels as needed.
•Work closely with the Digital Marketing Manager to develop and execute campaigns using all digital marketing assets that help to achieve marketing goals.
•Working with the Ad Sales & Marketing Coordinator, define and manage all exhibit-related activities for the assigned journals.
•Analyze journal data to inform marketing plans with the ultimate goal of driving submissions and increasing usage year over year.
•Identify new opportunities to promote journals via non-Publications channels. Create and implement promotional plans.
•Create and distribute monthly reports on marketing activities to the Assistant Director, Journal Marketing, and Director, Journal Marketing & Sales. Make recommendations for improved campaign performance.
•Monitor marketing activities, messaging, and fees of competitive journals.
•Develop knowledge and expertise in STM marketing, particularly in Open Access/Open Science.
•Perform other responsibilities as may be assigned.
•BS degree in marketing or a related field
•4 to 5 years of work experience in marketing, preferably in publishing
•Demonstrable experience developing and implementing marketing campaigns, particularly in digital channels
•Strong copywriting skills
•Ability to work effectively with internal and external groups
•Excellent verbal and written communication skills
•Strong analytical skills and data-driven thinking
•High level of organization and attention to detail
•Ability to multitask and to meet deadlines
•Knowledge of and experience in using Google Analytics and email marketing tools such as MailChimp preferred
•Ability to travel occasionally to offsite conferences
