Overview

The Data Analyst / Business Analyst provides data analysis for the Publications Division to ensure that Publishing management has the information needed to assess the performance of digital products and services and to make decisions regarding promotions, product enhancements, and new product development. The Analyst also provides business analysis and project management support for assigned projects in the Digital Publishing Department and backup support for other members of the Digital Publishing team.

Responsibilities

•Manitain current analytics reports, tools, and data flows in the Publications Division to monitor the performance of AACR’s journals and competitor’s journals in various dimensions, including site traffic, article usage, article citations, search engine ranking, social media trends, and performance of email campaigns
•Generate routine analytics reports as scheduled, including monthly journal usage repots and email campaign reports.

•Perform routine data updates as scheduled, including quarterly updates of rejected article data.

•Perform ad hoc data analysis as needed to identify and interpret trends and address stakeholder inquiries.

•Serve as principal liaison to vendors that provide analytics reports, tools, and data to the Publications Division.

•Collaborate with stakeholders to understand and address data analytics needs and challenges and enhance their ability to make data-driven decisions.

•Continuously evaluate analytics reports, tools, and data flows to troubleshoot problems and extend capabilities, integrating new types of data as appropriate.

•Provide business analysis and project management support for assigned projects in the Digital Publishing Department.

•Analyze processes and tools, identify problems and opportunities, evaluate alternatives, and recommend solutions for assigned projects.

•Develop business and functional requirements as needed to support selection and implementation of solutions.

•Manage projects, develop project plans, and monitor project performance.

•Develop and execute test plans.

•Provide support, education, and training to stakeholders in the use of the reports and tools provided by the Digital Publishing Department.

•Provide backup to other Digital Publishing positions as assigned, including web page maintenance and email marketing.

•Perform the essential functions of the position, and other tasks as assigned.

Qualifications

•A minimum of 3 years of experience in data analysis, business analysis, and project management

•Experience in scientific, technical, or medical publishing preferred

•Experience with tools and methods used for obtaining, storing, managing, analyzing, reporting, and presenting data

•Strong analytical skills with ability to assess complex situations, communicate them effectively, and move them to resolution

•Strong project management skills and ability to manage, set, and oversee multiple priorities

•Experience writing business and functional requirements

•Experience writing and managing test plans

•Ability to work within a team environment and to collaborate with colleagues in the organization and externally

•Ability to influence stakeholders and work with them to identify solutions

•Excellent written and oral communication skills.

•Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel and competency in other Microsoft applications including Word and Outlook required

•Proficiency with Google Analytics reporting, and implementation required

•Experience with Microsoft Power BI or similar business intelligence tools desirable

•Familiarity with bibliometric data sources such a PubMed, Crossref, Web of Science, Dimensions, etc. a plus

•Knowledge of website tools and HTML required; knowledge of CSS a plus

•Knowledge of email marketing tools a plus

 

Education and Training:

•Bachelors degree.

 

Technical Competencies and Special Skills:

•Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel required

•Proficiency with Google Analytics required

•Experience with Microsoft Power BI or similar business intelligence tools desirable

•Knowledge of HTML required

•Competency in other Microsoft applications, including Word and Outlook, required
