Overview

The American Association for Cancer Research (AACR), with more than 60,000 members residing in 143 countries and territories, is the first and largest organization in the world dedicated to advances in all areas of high-quality, innovative cancer research. AACR publishes ten peer-reviewed scientific journals and an award-winning magazine for cancer patients and their loved ones; convenes topical scientific conferences and an annual meeting with more than 22,000 scientists, clinicians, other health care professionals, cancer survivors, and patient advocates from more than 80 countries; offers educational workshops that train young investigators in a variety of scientific and clinical areas; funds fellowships, career development awards, and research grants for both senior and junior investigators; raises public awareness of the progress in and reasons for hope in the biology, detection, diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of cancer; engages actively in advocacy for increased federal research funding and other national policies that accelerate progress against cancer; and interacts with regulatory agencies to support regulatory science and policy.

 

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Membership Database Operations, the Data Quality Analyst is responsible for ensuring the accuracy, completeness, and reliability of membership data within the AACR system of record. This role is crucial in maintaining data integrity and identifying and resolving data quality issues. The Data Quality Analyst collaborates with various teams to establish data quality standards and supports implementation of processes that meet those standards. 

Responsibilities

  • Data Quality Assessment: Evaluate the quality of data through data profiling, validation, and analysis. Identify and document data quality issues, anomalies, and inconsistencies.
  • Data Quality Standards: Define, recommend, and help establish data quality standards, guidelines, and best practices. Develop and maintain data quality rules and metrics to measure the accuracy, completeness, consistency, and timeliness of data.
  • Data Cleansing and Transformation: Collaborate with the IT department to design and execute data cleansing and transformation procedures. Implement data quality improvement initiatives to rectify identified issues.
  • Data Validation and Testing: Develop and execute data validation tests and procedures to ensure data accuracy and consistency. Perform regular audits and reconciliations to verify the integrity of data across systems and databases.
  • Issue Resolution: Investigate and troubleshoot data quality issues, collaborating with relevant teams to identify root causes and implement appropriate solutions. Document and track issue resolution processes and outcomes.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Maintain comprehensive documentation of data quality processes, standards, and methodologies. Generate reports and dashboards to communicate data quality metrics and trends to stakeholders.
  • Process Improvement: Continuously assess and improve data quality assurance processes and methodologies. Propose enhancements and automation opportunities to optimize data quality workflows. 
  • Train: Train staff on data entry standards and provide guidance on data-related issues.
  • Support: Offer support to business users in resolving data-related issues and answering data quality-related queries.
  • Industry Trends and Best Practices: Stay up to date with emerging trends, technologies, and best practices in data quality assurance. Apply new knowledge to enhance data quality processes and methodologies within the organization.
  • Performs other essential tasks and duties required of the position in order to support the Senior Manager as needed. 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Data Analytics, or a related field (or equivalent work experience) 
  • 3-5 years of experience in data quality, data management, or database administration, preferably in a non-profit environment 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong understanding of data quality concepts, methodologies, and best practices
  • Experience in data analysis, profiling, and data cleansing techniques
  • Proficiency in Excel, SQL, and data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI).
  • Experience with CRM systems (e.g., Salesforce, Raiser’s Edge) and nonprofit databases is a plus
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills
  • Ability to work effectively and independently and as part of a team
  • Experience in working with large datasets and complex data environments is a plus
